  2. New Year Slipping Away From You?

January 27, 2011 by Tarrant Figlio

I know, you started the new year with the best of intentions. Then it snowed, the kids got sick, you got sick, the washing machine broke and surviving seemed like the best intention for the new year.

Or you might be one of those people who started the new year with a bang. You have done everything perfectly.

Either way–one thing you must do and do right away is win a $100.00 Gift Card from Jimmy Dean and BlogHer by sharing your better choice for the New Year on my review blog.

If you are one of the former, remember that each day, each hour, each minute, you have the chance to make one tiny better choice for the day. So, after entering to win the gift card (which you could use or even give to someone in need: it is as good as 100 in cash!) you can use the next moment to make the choice to get a glass of water instead of one soda or sweet tea. Or you could use that moment to send an I love you to someone in your life or hug your child and listen to what they want to tell you RIGHT NOW. Make one tiny change at a time and you make progress.

  4. Norwegian Waffles

January 22, 2011 by Tarrant Figlio

So you want a Wisconsin recipe but not something particularly odd. Perhaps something trendy like waffles. Not exactly party food, but yummy. Ok, once when in elementary school, my mother had a party for me and my classmates. A waffle party–with lots of toppings–fabulous fun and unique.

For an adult party, you could offer savory toppings or mix them in-exotic cheeses, meats, caviar, sauteed vegetables or a selection of jams and jellies you collected or created because they SOUND good but then you never end up using them because they don’t suit a sandwich or daily toast and preserves.

    Norwegian Waffles

    2 cups flour
    1 teaspoon baking powder
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    2 tablespoons sugar
    2 egg yolks, lightly beaten
    2 cups milk
    4 tablespoons shortening, melted
    1 egg white

    jelly and scraped maple sugar

Sift flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar into a bowl, add yolks, milk, and shortening. Beat whites stiff and with the same beater beat first mixture until smooth and fold in egg whites last. Bake and spread with jelly and maple sugar, clap 2 waffle sections together to make a swell sandwich. Serves six.
