Cherry Coke Jell-o Salad

I am on a cherry roll these days. Ok, not really, I just noticed that there are going to be two cherry recipes in a row. But, last night we were talking about Jell-o AGAIN. I may never live down the asparagus salad. There were threats of turning off the water if I tried to make the salad again. I said well I can use coke to make Jell-o. This was not believed.

You can. It is yummy

2 (3 oz) packages cherry Jell-O .
3 c boiling water
1 (12 oz) can Coca-Cola .
1 (21 oz) jar maraschino cherries

Mix Jell-0 and boiling water. Stir until dissolved. Stir in can of coke and drained cherries. Chill until set.

  1. Yes, you can use Coke – or lemon-lime soda (7-Up), ginger ale, Dr. Pepper, orange soda, etc. We did that when we were kids in the ’60’s. Just what we needed – more sugar! πŸ™‚ Thanks for the reminder.

Oh, if we weren’t making “fizzy” jello, we always used fruit juice instead of the cold water.

  2. Rochelle says:

I thought the recipe was going to call for cherry coke, I guess you could use that too. Didn’t people used to make this with canned sweet cherries? I think I have seen that recipe quite a few times. I bet kids would like the maraschino cherries better.

  3. Mine calls for maraschinos but I have seen it with other canned cherries and with pineapple instead.

  4. You can probably use almost any kind of fruit that won’t prevent the gelatin from setting. I’m making this tonight (with Dr Pepper instead of Coke, but using maraschino cherries) and the kids can snack on it all week. Thanks for the inspiration.
