Deviled Crab

Filed under: Fish, Recipes, retro food — Retro Food

Ok, this recipe is not how I make deviled crab at all. However, some of you might like it this way…

2 hard boiled eggs
1 raw egg
2 TBS melted butter
1/2 c hot water
crab meat
1/2 c bread crumbs
1/4 teasp dry mustard
2 TBS vinegar
salt and cayenne pepper to taste

Mix yolk of raw egg with yolks of boiled eggs. Add dry mustard, vinegar, melted butter, pepper and salt. Chop whites of hard boiled eggs, add crab meat and bread crumbs. Mix with dressing. Add beaten egg white and water. Place in shells or casserole. Cover with bread crumbs and dot with butter. Bake at 450. Mrs. E. C. Marshall- From the Alachua Hospital Auxiliary Cookbook, 1969.

  1. I love Dungeness crab, but only when it’s fresh. This sounds… interesting. The idea of putting it into shells made my stomach turn though.

  3. I was going to ask how you made deviled crab too, but Liz beat me to it! This could be the benadryl talkin’, but it looks more like something I would stuff into the nether regions of a fowl than something I would serve. I think it’s the part where it says ‘Mix with the dressing’…mmm…Thanksgiving…

What were we talking about again?

  4. That must be some REALLY good deviled crab that you make, since you’re keeping it under wraps. This recipe definitely sounds interesting, but you’ve got me curious now.
