Some of these do look surprisingly modern. Others are just HILARIOUS.

I have that same book (1954 version) and I love, LOVE it. I’ve been trying to talk the hubs into going a little retro modern, but that dream crusher is keepin’ me down! *SIGH*
A gal can dream though, can’t she?
