It turned out really well!

I like recipes that use lemons b/c we have a lemon tree in our yard and we never use all of them.

I probably added more lemon than the recipe calls for (I'm too impatient to measure and not that good at eyeballing) but Ido and I LOVED the lemony taste. The kids were a little reluctant, but they always are when I make something new.

I used a little bit of melted butter instead of the chicken fat, which was especially exciting b/c then the dish is non-kosher and to this day, I still derive a secret pleasure from eating non-kosher foods (grew up in a strict Jewish home).

So thank you. :)

I really like the idea of putting lemon and rice into a meatloaf. Ooooh, and I just bought an awesome ring mold. A little Pilaf in the middle, perhaps? ;)

I usually make meatloaf once every other week or so, I'll have to try this one out!

Well if this one doesn't work, look at some of the other meatloaf recipes. I generally do a new one on Mondays.

Thanks. I have a meatloaf recipe that for some reason turns out inconsistently - sometimes it's great but sometimes, for some reason, the texture is all wrong. I am going to give this one a try.

Kitchen Bouquet can be found in the condiment section of your grocery store near the marinades. It is often used in gravy dishes and older meat dishes. You could use any type of fat-bacon fat is popular in meatloaf recipes. I tend to sub a bit of veggie oil or skip it altogether.

We try some...my family tends to rebel at having too many retro dishes. Some like the one above come from my grandmother's/mother's recipe files.

I can't believe that it took me so long to click through to this blog from Denise's. Very cool.

I am curious to know if you try the recipes before publishing them.

Re: this recipe, what is kitchen bouquet and do you think it's OK to substitute a different kind of fat for the chicken fat?
