Waldorf Salad

Filed under: Fruits, Recipes, Salads, retro food — Retro Food

Awww come on, you know you secretly love waldorf salad even if you make fun of it and eat around the walnuts.

3 large tart eating apples
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 cup juilienned Pascal celery
½ cup coarsely chopped walnuts
½ cup mayonnaise

Pare apples, cut in quarters, remove cores. Cut quarters into bite size wedges.  Sprinkle with lemon juice. Cut celery into lenghtwise strips; hold together and cut crosswise into ½-inch lengths. Add to apples and toss together. Cover and chill. Just before serving time, add nuts and mayonnaise to mixture and toss gently to distribute dressing. Pile lightly into lettuce cups on individual salad plates. (If apples have red, tender skins, leave skins on for color.) 5 or 6 servings. The Modern Family Cookbook

  1. We always had Waldorf salad right next to the jello molds for family gatherings & holidays. I never could get past the celery.

  2. Actually, the celery is pretty troubling. Hmmm…and my mother usually put raisins in it.
