Baked Apples No. 1

Filed under: Desserts, Fruits, Recipes, retro food — Retro Food

I love baked apples. I only don’t like coring apples to make baked apples. I stuff them full of butter and brown sugar and cinnamon and throw them in the oven. Better yet, grab some pie pastry and wrap the apples pre-baking.

Here is how  The Modern Family Cookbook  suggests you go about it though.

5 large baking apples
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup raisins or nuts
2 tablespoons butter

Wash and core apples. Fil the cores with the brown sugar and raisins or nuts and dot with butter. Place in a baking pan or casserole and pour enough water around them just to cover the bottom of the pan. Bake in a moderate (350 degree F.) oven 45 minutes to 1 hour, or until apples are tender when pierced with a fork. 5 servings.

Variation: Fill centers of the apples with 1/2 cup drained crushed pineapple and 1/4 cup brown sugar. Dot with butter, pour water into ban and bake as above.
