Prune Milk Shake

Filed under: Beverages, Desserts, Fruits, Recipes, retro food — Retro Food

Prune ShakeI swear, this is fascinating to me. Really. I definitely want to try. I mean, won’t the lemon juice curdle the milk? Doesn’t a milk shake need ice cream? Prunes are creamy and sweet but can they handle milk shake-ification? Will my children believe this is a treat?

Prune Shake

1½ cups prune purée (about ½ lb. dried prunes)
6 tablespoons lemon juice
1/16 teaspoon salt
4½ cups milk, chilled
Sugar to taste

Mix the prune purée thoroughly with the lemon juice and salt. Add milk and beat with rotary beater; add sugar to suit the taste, amount depends on sweetness of prunes. Chill before serving. 5 or 6 servings.

  2. Not as disgusting as the burned prune smell from where I just messed up.

  3. This was a big hit at our house. Really. The oldest child thought it tasted like tea and wasn’t amused by it. But the other children LOVED it and one wanted a second cup!

  4. Amusing! My only experience was when they MADE me drink a huge glass of prune juice in the hospital the day after Brad was born. They also MADE me take a laxative and a sleeping pill. Everything worked & I woke up smelly & grouchy. I’ve never been tempted to try the stuff again.

  5. Hmmm I think I will avoid the laxative, prune juice and sleeping pill combo. This was not as prune-y tasting as prune juice, more chai like.
