Cantaloupe and Cherry Salad

Filed under: Fruits, Salads, retro food — Retro Food

From The Modern Family Cookbook

With a French vegetable cutter, scoop out balls of cantaloupe. Combine with an equal quantity of pitted sweet black cherries, or drained canned sweet cherries. Heap fruit lightly in cups of lettuce. Serve with French Dressing.

My Note: I am thinking a French vegetable cutter is a melon baller. That doesn’t explain the French Dressing though…hmmm…

  1. Frightening. I was thinking the canned cherries and melon would be good. But french dressing no. Maybe catalina dressing instead.

  2. Aren’t French and Catalina the same? Or is that Russian and Catalina?

  4. No French and Catalina are not the same. Catalina is similar to Russian but not Russian. My mom liked Catalina, us kids stuck to regular French. I used to think I wasn’t allowed to use mom’s Catalina, for some reason. Maybe because she always insisted I wouldn’t like it, and when she did that it wasn’t because I wouldn’t like it but because she didn’t want me to have it or something? I dunno. I can vaguely remember buying a bottle of Catalina after I got married and feeling some weird guilty pleasure. I don’t really like Catalina all that much though.
